HP Officejet Pro 8600

My HP Officejet Pro 8600 regularly won't wake up or respond after it has been sitting for a few hours. The printer is connected wired to network. The power is connected directly to the wall (not through surge protector or anything). I confirmed the firmware is up to date. The power button flashes slowly and won't respond to pressing it. The only thing that works is unplugging it from the wall and plugging it back in.

@dlmat,

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. Going through your post, I understand that the printer goes to the sleep mode and does not “wake up” when you try printing. I would suggest you assign a static IP address and disable the IPv6 to fix the issue. Here are the steps:

Restart the printer and obtain the printer IP address.

Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.

Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.

Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)

Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Restart the printer and router once done.

Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Hi - I tried what you suggested - I get as far as clicking the suggest manual ip part but that button doesn't do anything for me. It seems to be grayed-out. Can i just manually enter something? I tried using what the printer has now for it's IPv4 address info, but according to my printer the default gateway is 0.0.0.0. the system would not let me enter that (says invalid).

Any other suggestions I can try?

@dlmat,

Thank you for replying,

After reviewing your post, I see that you still seem to have the issue with the printer. Don't worry as I have a few other steps which should help you resolve this issue.

Let's try to reset the printer to the network defaults:

Reset network settings

To reset the administrator password and network settings, complete the following steps:

1. On the printer control panel, touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network.

2. Touch Restore Network Defaults, and then select Yes.

A message appears stating that the network defaults have been restored.

Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Now run the wireless setup wizard on the printer to connect the printer to the network:

Set up the printer using the Wireless Setup Wizard

The Wireless Setup Wizard provides an easy way to set up and manage a wireless connection to

your printer from the printer control panel.

1. Set up the printer hardware. See the getting started guide or the setup poster that came

with your printer.

2. On the printer control panel, touch (right arrow), touch Setup, and then touch Network.

3. Touch Wireless, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch OK.

4. Follow the display instructions to complete the setup

Once the printer is connected to the same network, now try to assign the manual IP address and check if that helps.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
