HP ENVY Photo 7134
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

My iMAC can't connect to my HP Envy Photo 7134 printer. I have tried turning everything off and on again, including my BT Smart Home HUB. Doesn't help. I can print from all ipads and iphones in the house with no problem. I have tried reinstalling via the driver, but the driver can't connect to the Printer. Under Printer and Faxes in iMAC, the printer is showing as on line and idle. But when I try to print anything, it can't connect.

I have managed a few times to print form the iMAC, but most of the time it can't find it and for the last week it hasn't connected at all.

The network name is the same on the printer and the iMAC.

I have tried putting the IP address of the printer in the browser of the iMAC bit it does not take me anywhere, which suggests it can't find the printer at all. Please can anybody help - this is driving me round the bend.

Hi @ELC73,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are facing issues while connecting the network printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

Is the printer connected to the network? Check the wireless light. If the light is steady blue, then the printer is connected to the network. If the light is flashing, then the printer is not connected to the network. Go to Setup - Network - Wireless setup wizard to connect the printer to the newtork.

Once the printer is connected to the network, then assign a static IP to the printer:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

If the issue persists, Let's try to perform Reset Printing System in Mac:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
  • Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
  • Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
  • Click the “Add button” (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
  • Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint. Alternatively, you may select the name of your printer if available in that list.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi,

thank you very much for the advice. Unfortunately when I put the IP address in the browser, nothing happened.

However, I ran a wireless network test result on the printer, which told me that the printer had found more than one access point/wireless router that matched my SSID wireless network name. That didn't make any sense to me. So I went onto my BThomehub manager (I am in the UK and my ISP is BT). I thought about it for while as everything was running normally. Then I realised that the router has 2 frequencies - 5gHZ and 2.5gHz.The printer was showing as connected to 2.5 but also had the button for 5 "on". So i wondered if it was connected to a different band to my iMAC. Anyway, I separated the bands on my router, then tried to connect both the printer and the iMAC to the same band (having given them spearate network names to distinguish.) That didn't work, so I combined the bands again on the router, reconnected the printer and the iMAC to the SSID and hey presto - the iMAC can see my printer and has connected wirelessly and is printing everything! Maybe separating the bands on the router and then dualing them again did something. Anyway, it may be worth anyone else with this kind of problem running a wireless network test on their printer....

 thanks again and best wishes
