Hi @Sunburn74,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP M1217nfw MFP printer is stuck in an initialization loop after changing the toner cartridge and the NVRAM cold reset did not resolve the issue, you can try the following steps.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds to ensure that all power is drained from the printer.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Make sure there are no obstructions or foreign objects inside the printer that may be preventing the initialization process.

Update Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website for your printer model and check if there are any firmware updates available. If so, download and install the latest firmware.

Check Toner Cartridge Installation:

  • Ensure that the toner cartridge is installed correctly. Double-check that it is securely seated in its place.

Perform a Partial Reset:

  • Perform a partial reset by pressing and holding the "Cancel" button or the "Go" button (depending on the model) while turning on the printer. Hold the button until the lights flash, and the printer starts the initialization process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

None of those things work.

Power cycling did not work

It won't let me update the firmware. I get an error .

There are no obstructions.

The cartridge is installed properly

The printer remains unuseable and is stuck "initializing"
