HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

I CANNOT PRINT FROM WORD OR POWERPOINT. I RESTARTED THE PRINTER AND THE MACBOOK. OPERATING SYSTEM IS VENTURA 13.4.. when I print - from any app - the message I get is "printing ... then it gets to 100% complete" then it says waiting for printer to become available. Its connected directly to my macbook by a cable. the printer does print when I print from within the HP utility. I hope someone can answer this. Thank you

Hi @MKTag,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're unable to print from any application except the HP Utility on your Mac after installing the OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check printer connections: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Mac via USB or wireless connection. Make sure all cables are securely plugged in and that the printer is turned on.
  • Update printer drivers: Visit the official HP website and download the latest printer drivers specifically designed for macOS. Install the drivers on your Mac and restart the computer.
  • Set the printer as default: Open "System Preferences" on your Mac, click on "Printers & Scanners," and select your OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer from the list on the left side. Click the "Set as Default" button to make it the default printer for your Mac.
  • Check printer settings: Open the HP Utility and make sure the printer settings are properly configured. Ensure that the printer is online and not set to "Use Printer Offline" mode.
  • Reset printing system: In "System Preferences," go to "Printers & Scanners," right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list, and select "Reset printing system." This action will remove all printers from the list, so you'll need to add your OfficeJet Pro 8600 again afterward.
  • Reinstall printer: Remove the printer from the printer list by selecting it and clicking the minus (-) button. Then click the plus (+) button to add the printer again. Ensure you select the correct printer model and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  • Restart print spooler: Open "Terminal" on your Mac (located in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder) and type the following command: sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd. Press Enter, and you may be prompted to enter your administrator password. Once done, restart your Mac.
  • Check firewall/antivirus settings: Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your Mac, as they might be blocking communication between the printer and your applications. If disabling the software allows printing, adjust the settings to allow the printer to function properly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have done everything you noted except this: “Open "Terminal" on your Mac (located in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder) and type the following command: sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd. Press Enter, and you may be prompted to enter your administrator password. Once done, restart your Mac. “

nothing worked. This sounds scary but will try it. I do not have antivirus se on my Mac.
