I reinstalled Windows 10 just and I am going through the process of reinstalling software/ devices.
1. How do I erase the computer from the printer's memory? My computer name has changed and so the computer name that my computer used to have, I would think is stored in the printer's memory. But, I don't need that anymore.
2. If I search for the printer and let Windows 10 try to install it automatically, will that generally work ok? Or should I really be downloading software from HP and using that?

Thanks for posting. It is a terrific place to find answers and tips!
I understand that you want assistance in installing the printer on your Windows 10 computer, I will be delighted to assist you here.
1) If you want to restore the printer to factory defaults, follow the below steps:
1. From the printer control panel display, touch and slide your finger across the screen and then touch Setup.
2. Touch Tools.
3. Touch Restore Factory Defaults, and then touch Yes. A message appears stating that the printer defaults have been restored.
4. Touch OK
Once done, download full feature driver from HP support website and install the printer.
Here is the direct link to download the printer driver:- https://hp.care/2IIeDY5
After downloading run and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the driver installation.

It seems as though the built in Windows 10 drivers work for printing (the ones that Windows uses if you search for the printer and then add it).
However, I am not sure if there is a way to set up network scan to my computer without using the traditional software from HP.
My needs are pretty basic so my initial reaction is to avoid extra software until I maybe come across a specific task that would require that.
Do you think there is much of a reason to reset the printer to the original factory settings? If so, maybe I should have done that before actually installing the printer in Windows 10 (my mistake there). The printer is also connected to one of my other computers (although I don't think it's set up for scanning to that computer). So, I wasn't so sure about resetting it. But, I was having some other problems with it such as it creating pdf scans there were landscape oriented (instead of portrait).

Thanks for the reply.
I appreciate your time and effort.
You will be able to scan using the Windows built-in driver.
Refer this HP document for more assistance on scanning:- https://hp.care/2MyQb9B

I realized that HP Smart installed on my computer. I am guessing that that's related software but maybe not the whole software package that is offered for this printer model. the website that you referred me to has a link in it for people using HP Smart. However, when I click that link, it just brings me to a page that asks if the information was helpful. I tried 2 different web browsers but I got the same result each time.

I recently had to reinstall my desktop computer operating system. I have now reinstalled the printer software on my computer. However, on the printer display, my old computer name shows on the list of computers when I select "scan to computer."
Seems to me that erasing this computer from the list is a pretty basic function. I would obviously want to remove this computer from the list since that computer essentially no longer exists.
Edit: No response so elaborating on the importance
this seems like a pretty basic function so I am confused why it's not addressed in the user manual.
I see that other computer manufacturers have this basic function, and lay out clear instructions on their website
