Within the last week, my printer will not print envelopes. I have saved envelopes and they will print on regular paper but will not print on envelopes. It acts like it is printing and the envelope comes out blank.

Thanks for letting me know @cfms.

If the printer is networked make sure that you selected the proper port when adding the Class driver, please.

I found this additional document for Word printing blank envelopes that you can take a look at.

Try to check the printing preference of the printer, force it to print black and white, then save it and try printing again. If the color is low it may not print either.

Since it printed on the letter sized paper previously, check the paper to see where it printed.

Then adjust the feed method for your envelopes accordingly in the Word software to see if it makes a difference.
It may be printing but not on the envelope size that is selected.
(Printing Options tab of Envelope Options)

You may want to contact Microsoft to see if there is a setting or a patch for this issue.

Let me know how you make out. Thanks!

Welcome @cfms,

Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that the envelopes are coming out blank. I will certainly do my best to help you.

I have provided a document for checking the print setting for  Printing Envelopes (Windows).

What application are you printing the envelopes from?
What size and type of envelopes are you using?

Try the following steps to see if it helps.
Remove any paper from the tray and just load the envelopes.
Open the Officejet J6480 Printing Preferences, select "Paper/Quality" then under "Paper Size" select "Envelope #10". (if that is the size you are using)
Apply that change and exit.

Using Microsoft Office Word to print envelopes.
Then adjust the feed method for your envelopes accordingly in the Word software.
(Printing Options tab of Envelope Options)
Select the "Envelopes are centered in the tray" option and select the "Envelope #10 size".

Let me know if that helps.

All you have provided are the the basic steps for printing an envelope. I know how to do that. I have a specific problem. I have experienced other printing problems since upgrading to Windows 10 but I don't know it that plays into it. DON"T tell me to download the new driver for my printer. I have done so. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times in case it was corrupted. I have even re-downloaded and reinstalled. I had things basically working when all of a sudden the printer won't print envelopes. Sometimes. I brought up the system this am and it printed an envelope, no problem. Then wouldn't print the second one. Did print the third one. Then no more. But it will always print the envelope information on a full size sheet of paper. What is going on?

Hi @cfms,

Thanks for providing that information. I provided the basic steps to make sure all the settings are set correctly for printing envelopes.

I am still waiting to find out what application are you printing the envelopes from.

I am not trained in third party software, but I did come across a couple of things you can try to see if it may help.

Make sure that you do not have anything extraneous in the mail merge main document that is causing a page break to be inserted after each envelope. That can cause the blank envelope.

If you are using Word, go to Page Setup, Layout tab and set the "section start" to "continuous".

You can try setting up Custom envelopes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

I am using Word 2003. Thanks for the suggestion but it did not work. Just thought you might know if the updated printer driver for j6480 has issues with Windows 10.

Hi @cfms,

Not that I am aware of. Just to rule that out, we can install a preinstalled Windows driver to see if we have the same results.

From the Devices and Printers window, select the Add Printer Wizard and add the generic driver Officejet PCL3 Class Driver. It may show the name a little different.

Let me know if that made any difference.

Thanks!

That driver did not work with my printer at all.

Boy do I feel stupid! I knew the color cartridge was out but had no idea that would affect the printing of envelopes. Especially since the system could still print the envelope properly as long as it was on a regular piece of paper. That still doesn't make sense to me. Same saved file - printed on paper but would not on envelope. In any case, I installed a new color cartridge this am and it seems to be working properly again. Thanks so much for your assitance!!!!!!
