HP LaserJet Pro M203dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Last time our laser printer (HP LaserJet Pro M203dw) was low on ink, we ordered a new extra high capacity cartridge and replaced it.  Even after replacement, the low ink light was still on.  We've now just seen the same thing happen with another new cartridge.  We let the other one run for quite awhile and it worked fine, but the low ink level light showed and we got the warnings and just ignored them.  Now that we've again replaced the toner cartridge, we still see the same thing, the low ink light is on.  The light is not blinking, it's solid and on continually which, according to the HP manual indicates the toner cartridge is "very low".  Thought it may be the other cartridge but now it's happened on 2 separate cartridges.  We ordered the cartridge from the HP web site.

Anyone else run into this sort of issue?

Hi @Nerdtron,

I'd like to help!

I understand a "low on ink" light blinks on the printer.

A Toner Low or Toner Very Low message might display on the computer screen when the amount of toner in the toner cartridge is below a certain percentage. This message is a reminder to have a replacement toner cartridge available. You do not need to replace the toner cartridge until print quality becomes unacceptable

You can change when the Toner Low message displays by changing the supply settings in the printer software.

Change supply settings in Windows

For computers with Windows, change when the Toner Low message displays using HP Printer Assistant.

  1. Turn on the printer.

  2. Search Windows for laserjet, and then click the printer name in the list of results.

    HP Printer Assistant opens.

  3. Click Print, and then click HP Device Toolbox.

  4. Click the System tab, and then click Supply Settings.

  5. In the box next to Low Threshold (Black Cartridge), type the percentage of toner that you want remaining in the toner cartridge when the Toner Low message displays again.

    NOTE:

HP recommends that you set the toner percentage to at least 8%. A lower percentage can reduce print quality.

  6. Try to print the job again.

Also, try the steps in the document -Blinking Lights

If the issue persists, I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
