Hi @jxi-ixj ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're encountering issues with manual duplex printing on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw despite having paper loaded in tray 2, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
- Check Paper Size and Type: Ensure that the paper size and type settings in both your printer settings and the application you're printing from match the paper loaded in tray 2. If they don't match, the printer may not recognize the paper and prompt for loading tray 2.
- Verify Tray 2 Configuration: Make sure that Tray 2 is configured correctly in the printer settings. You can access printer settings through the control panel or via the printer's web interface if it's connected to a network.
- Clean Paper Trays and Rollers: Sometimes dust and debris can accumulate on the paper trays and rollers, causing feed issues. Clean both tray 2 and the rollers inside the printer carefully with a lint-free cloth dampened with water. Allow them to dry completely before loading the paper again.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. HP periodically releases firmware updates to address issues and improve performance. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's web interface or HP's support website. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can often resolve various issues with printer configuration. You can find instructions for resetting your specific printer model in the user manual or on HP's support website.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
