my printer is a hp photo envy 7134, the print quality is good but it is only printing a 3 inch strip of information then the paper is ejected. Any ideas what the issue may be, it sometimes prints ok though

@SusanM136, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're describing,  where your HP ENVY Photo 7134 only prints a 3-inch strip before ejecting the paper, typically points to one of the following causes:

Print Spooler or Driver Glitch

Sometimes the print job gets corrupted, especially if it comes from a PDF or non-standard file.

Fix:

  • Cancel all print jobs.
  • Restart the Print Spooler service (on Windows) or restart the Mac.
  • Reinstall the printer driver: Go to HP Software and Drivers and download the latest full-feature driver for the HP ENVY Photo 7134.

Page Size or Layout Mismatch

A mismatch between the document size and what the printer expects can cause partial prints.

Fix:

  • Check Print Settings in the print dialog:
  • Paper size: Set to A4 or Letter (whatever matches your tray).
  • Scale: Fit to page or 100%
  • Borderless: Try turning off for troubleshooting.
  • In HP Smart app or driver settings, double-check that paper type and size match the actual paper.

Firmware Bug or Printer Cache Issue

The printer may need a firmware update or internal reset.

Fix:

  • Go to the HP printer's touchscreen, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • After updating, do a printer reset:
  • Turn off the printer, unplug from power for 60 seconds, then plug back in and turn it on.

Application-Specific Problem

  • If you're printing from a browser, email, or specific app, try printing from another app or file type (e.g., Word or Notepad).

Test This:

  • Print a printer status report or print quality diagnostic page from the printer's control panel:
  • Go to Settings > Printer Reports > Print Quality Report.
  • If this page prints full-size correctly, the issue is software-related.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
