I bought my office jet pro 8720 last year to replace a 2003 hp 7850 photo printer I LOVE IT but I daily print photo's, brochures, and greeting cards on 110LB card stock.... the HP Office Jet 8720 leaves lines on anything with a picture on it when printing on card stock... my old HP7850 will print them perfectly... making my $279 office jet 8720 a paper weight I also bought the instant ink so the printer is a horrible waste to me... I am going to have to buy a new one.... anyone know of a office jet the does fax, photo print, copy, and scan and WILL PRINT ON 110LB card stock????? I am hoping to get another HP printer... thank you

I FIXED IT!!!!!!
dragon fur I guess I bought it two years ago ( time flies)
this has been a nightmare for a couple years and I have tried EVERYTHING.... tonight I was going to buy an Epson and I asked the question to Epson about printing on 110LB Card Stock..... I got three replies.... two said you can't print on card stock and the third person said they do it all the time they just have to select Matte???
so I went to my HP Office Jet 8720 put in a stack of 110LB Card Stock and started playing with the setttings... only one works if you select "Matte brochure or professional paper" they print WITHOUT LINES!!!!!! and they even look GREAT!
thanks everyone for trying to help me. and thank HP for a great product... too bad it took me two or three years to figure out how to use it!

Homepage
HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer series
Product introduced 2016
It hasn't been available from HP for a while (model discontinued)
The 8720 printer supports the media and media weights typical of the OfficeJet Pro series of mid-to-high grade printers.
Not much has changed in the past four years in this area.
For example, the Officejet Pro 9025 (a general high-end replacement for the 8720 / 8730 / 8740 series) supports the same Index card media and the same weight limitation.
Specifications > Paper Handling > Paper tray capacities
Cards | Up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index) | Up to 50 cards |
110lb Index card paper is at the upper limit - but should be supported.
Assuming you know the setup (and I expect you do), about the only thing I can suggest is that the printer might need maintenance (cleaning, including the ADF), might need fresh ink, might need no more than "normal" quality setting.
More from the Specifications
Paper tray capacities
note:Output tray capacity is affected by the type of paper and the amount of ink you use. HP recommends that you empty the output tray frequently.

Envelopes | 75 to 90 g/m2 (20 to 24 lb bond envelope) | Up to 30 envelopes (17 mm [0.67 inch] stacked)
Cards | Up to 200 g/m2 (110 lb index) | Up to 50 cards
Tray 2 note: | Plain paper only | 60 to 105 g/m2 (16 to 28 lb bond) | Up to 250 sheets |

Notice the media types include the ISO media type (bond, index). Although not explained here, there are differences on paper manufacture - Bond is not cover is not Text is not Index, for example. Lots of articles on the 'net for those interested in the magic.

Thank you Dragon-Fur
I spent hours on the phone with HP tech and they couldn't come up with anything... they were GREAT and really tried.... they sent me a new print head.... but nothing changed.... on plain paper photo's print perfectly... but on the 110LB cardstock I get one or two weird lines.... I believe your correct about the new HP printers will be very similar to my older printer... I REALLY hate to go to Epson but I guess that's my next step.... again thank you for your time Dragon-Fur

You are welcome, of course.
Interesting - you said you purchased the 8720 last year - was it a refurbished machine?
Why? Normally a refurbished machine has had all worn mechanics replaced. Assuming the printer ever performed as specified, there might be a worn or misaligned mechanical bit that was not replaced or has failed over time.
At this point, it doesn't really matter, I think.
History and Side Bar
The product was introduced in 2016. There are indications it was perhaps still available for sale as late as mid-2019. What? The series was extremely popular and sales of the series appear to have been extended past the normal 12-18 month cycle.
I had an Officejet Pro 8740 that would print on most anything I put in the printer - but that was a different printer AND I only had the printer for a loan period of one year - I do not know how well it has continued to perform at its new home. I have a newer Officejet Pro 9025 that I like almost as much as that 8740 - I admit I have not pushed it as hard as I did the 8740 whose purpose was training and evaluation.
OK - I am sorry about the results, of course. We (HP) hates to lose you.
If you decide to come back, we will be here.
Stay Safe.

Good news!
I have used Media type (kind of paper) Brochure matte setting for years to print cards.
HP Brochure Paper is 180 gsm — it is close to 200 gsm, of course, but I have not used the setting more than occasionally with paper heavier than the actual brochure paper.
Still, should work long term, too, I think. Be sure you keep the printer clean and all that.
Stay safe.
