officejet pro 8725
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

brand new 8725.   scans are terrible.   I've scanned tons of things with my 7410 and quality has always been great.

with the 8725, scans are low quality, small file size and unacceptable.  setting scan to Photo, 600 dpi, JPG, the JPG is 557 KB for a drivers license sized original.  quality is attrocious, so i can't use this thing to scan photos or even get a decent looking document.   also, at 600 dpi, the drivers license shows up more than a foot wide, on my 29" monitor.    Something's not right!

copying doesn't look nearly as bad as the scans to the PC.    Also, I can't find settings to change the copy quality for documents and photos, on the printer screen.

EDIT:   PROBLEM SOLVED!!!    I installed two different FREE apps for Windows.  One is NAPS2 and the other is IrfanView64.   IrfanView64 is absolutely AWESOME!   Makes super clear scans with file sizes/quality as great as I need them.

Your comment about printer costs was so far off the mark: now that I've downloaded and am using non-HP software, for scanning, the 8725 works like a charm.   The hardware wasn't the issue.  The software that comes with it is absymal.   FREE software such as IrfanView64 does the trick.

Hi,

You can use Enhancements, Quality options to get better results

(a) Touch Copy,

(b) Touch Settings (small icon at the bottom left corner),

More options are in the Copy settings menu.

Regards.

Where is the excellent software like I have with my officejet 7410??  THAT'S the crux of the problem.   The s/w with the 8725 is barebones--no options for jpg quality and a bunch of other settings.    I think I'll have to cart this printer back to Costco.

I hooked my 7410 back up.  printed the windows test page.   same page as what came out of my new 8725.  The text on the 7410 is far blacker (more like a laser black) than the 8725.  Does the 8725 print test pages at a lower quality than the 7410, accounting for the faded black, or is this what I have to "look forward to" in terms of the darkness of the ink in the 8725?   If that's the case, it's super-disappointing that the old 7410 can print far blacker.

Is there no TIFF option for file types?

Hi,

How much did you pay for printer in 2005 ? And how much for printer in 2016 now ?  Probably you can work out the numbers.

I want a printer as good as the 7410.   Money isn't the issue.  It's quality.   I need quality printing and scanning.
