Unpacked my new Deskjet 3720 and tried to connect to wi-fi. Somewhere along the process, a message popped up telling me that my network was 5GHz and printer cannot connect to anything more than 2 (or maybe 2.5?) GHz...that I needed to connect to a slower network. I cannot find anything about this in the manual. I am having to print via connecting to the USB with an adapter (that I had to go buy for this purpose) to fit my Mac. Please advise if this is correct or if there is something else I can do to connect to wi-fi. This is a home printer for personal use.

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
As per the printer specifications available here, HP Deskjet 3720 printer only supports 2.4Ghz WiFi network. Most of the WiFi routers supports dual band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz). If your WiFi router is a dual band router. You can enable 2.4Ghz network on the router and then connect the printer to the 2.4Ghz network.
What's the make and model of your WiFi router?
Let me know!
