hp officejet 3830 horizontal streaks of black  color on copies using document feeder. No streak lines when printing scans created using document feeder.  The picture below shows the problem.  The document feeder works perfectly except when color printing document fed documents.  All black & white  document fed copies are perfect.  See example below

Hi @WGSmith,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Horizontal streaks on color copies using the document feeder on your HP OfficeJet 3830 can often be caused by dust or debris on the glass strip near the scanner (typically located next to the main scanner glass, under the document feeder). Here are some steps to try and resolve this issue.

Clean the Scanner Glass and Glass Strip:

  • Lift the scanner lid to access the glass strip.
  • Look for a small glass strip near the edge of the main scanner glass (this is usually used by the document feeder).
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with glass cleaner (not sprayed directly on the glass) to clean both the glass strip and the main scanner glass.
  • Pay attention to any smudges or marks on the glass strip, as these can cause streaks during copying.

Check the Document Feeder Roller:

  • Open the document feeder cover and gently clean any rollers with a slightly damp cloth.
  • Ensure there’s no dust or debris that might be causing issues.

Align the Printhead and Run Print Quality Diagnostics:

  • Go to the printer’s control panel and run the printhead alignment and cleaning functions if available.
  • This can help improve the overall print quality.

Test the Copy Function Again:

  • Place a color document in the document feeder and test copying to see if the issue has improved.

If the problem persists despite these steps, it may indicate an issue with the scanner hardware or firmware. You may want to perform a firmware update via the HP Smart app or your printer’s settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
