Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Replaced 902XL cartridges, color and black.  The black is not recognized, colors seem to be ok based on the estimated cartridge level page.  Replaced old cartridges and black still not recognized.  I've done all the general printer reset options,  I know to do (unplugging, waiting etc); also cleaned the contact.  still not recognized.  Help appreciated.

To resolve this problem, reinstall the used ink cartridge.
Uninstall the new ink cartridge.
Install the used cartridge in the printer.
Allow the machine to recognize the old cartridge for a few minutes.
Remove the used cartridge and replace it with the new one.
Check if your printer is now recognizing the new cartridge.

Unfortunately that didn't work.  I have the new HP 902xl black and two old ones.  I tried both of the old ones, and none are recognized.  Again the new color cartridges, are recognized.  I tried cleaning the chip contact along with the printer contact using an eraser and dilute alcohol.  Finally I tried to update the firmware but was unable to.

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model?  Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?  Are the cartridges HP or third party?
