The output tray does not extend for legal size paper. Is there a button or lever somewhere that I don't see? The documentation simply says to pull the tray out, but it won't budge.

I just checked mine and initially thought the same - it would not extend.  I pulled a bit harder and found it did release.  Open the flap and pull firmly in the recessed area.  After I pulled it out once it was no longer stuck and now slides smoothy.

The original query (and my current problem) concern the ability of the printer's output tray to handle legal  size paper, but the 'solution' and the accompanying photos refer only to the output tray extension being set for letter-size paper. Is there a solution for the legal-size paper?

The first picture above shows letter size, the second picture shows the output tray extended to legal size.

This FINALLY worked for me. The tray was stuck tight, but I found there was a piece underneath that slid back and forth. I don't know if that made any difference, but after struggling with a severely stuck legal size extension for some time, it finally broke loose and is working ok now.
