Hi @tristan33,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know that you still have trouble.

Request you to please remove the ink cartridges from the printer and try the hard reset on the printer, and let us know how it goes.

Hard reset :
1. Turn the printer on if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer if it does not automatically turn on. The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @tristan33,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing the details. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 still won’t print even after replacing the printhead and installing new ink, here are the most likely causes and solutions:

1. Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure you’re using genuine HP 950/951 cartridges (or XL versions).
  • Non-HP or refilled cartridges can cause recognition issues.

2. Run a Printhead Alignment & Cleaning

  • On the printer’s touchscreen:
    • Setup → Printer Maintenance → Clean Printhead
    • Repeat up to 3 times if colors are missing or faded.
  • Then select Align Printhead to calibrate.

3. Update Printer Firmware

4. Check for Blockages

  • Open the access door and inspect the ink carriage path.
  • Remove any debris or dried ink around the printhead area.

5. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer ON, unplug the power cord.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back directly into a wall outlet.
  • Turn it on and check if the issue clears.

6. If Still Not Printing

  • This often points to a logic board failure or internal ink system error.
  • Contact HP Support for service or replacement: HP Contact Support

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. The ink is genuine. I can not access the touchscreen panel to do anything whatsoever. If I press the power button to turn it off it won't let me because it hasn't finished alignment and something else. I can not even do anything when it is wired to PC it will not communicate with each other.

Doubt HP will do much its an old printer well and truly out of any warranty.

Thanks again for the reply.
