I have a black ink light on solid and the resume and power lights are both flashing. I have opened everything up and checked for any paper jam, repositioned the black cartridge and unplugged the power and computer cords. I replugged, waited for it to go through start up and printed one page, which came out perfectly. Upon completion the lights all came back on in the same patterns. I went through the entire clearing, unplugging, etc., process two more times with the same result. What else can I try?

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Are you using genuine HP Ink cartridge?
Did you try with a different ink cartridge?
Any hardware changes in the printer?
How is the ink level in the blank ink cartridge?
Each cartridge has an expiration date to protect the printing system and to ensure ink quality.
Try with a different ink cartridge and that should work.

I appreciate your response. To your questions:
1. Yes, I am using an HP cartridge which I purchased a few days ago. The date on it is 2016/09/18. I assume that means it was packaged on that date. Over the past 24 hours I have turned it off, unplugged it, let it sit for at least twenty minutes (which I doubt has much bearing), plugged it back in and turned it own. The only light on will be the power light. I can print one page, black and white, it comes out beautifully and then immediately the black ink light comes back on solid and the resume and power lights come back on flashing.
I have put the old cartridge back in it and the black ink light is out now, but the resume and power lights are now on solid. I turned off the machine and now the black ink light is on solid as are the resume and power lights.
2. I have had no hardware changes to the printer.
3. The black ink level should be full, since I just took it out of the package before this all started.
I appreciate your attention and look forward to any other suggestions you can give me.

Appreciate all your time and efforts,
update the printer firmware and Mac software:
Remove multiple printers from the printer list
Check for multiple devices in the Printers list, and then remove any extra entries other than one in idle status.
-
Search the Mac for Print, and then click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners in the list of results.
-
Find the printer names that match your printer from the list of devices.
-
If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button
at the bottom of the list. Leave one 'idle' printer in the list that matches your printer if available and use this printer as the Default printer.
-
Try printing again.
-
If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.
-
If the printer remains offline or displays an error, continue to the next step.
-
Step 4: Delete the existing print queue and add the printer
Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.
-
Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.
-
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button
to delete it.
-
Click the Add button
.
-
Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.
NOTE:
If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.
-
Click Print Using or Use.
-
Select the name of your printer.
Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status
.
-
Try printing again.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
