I have a HP Desk Jet 4130e  printer which has been working perfectly fine - needed new cartridges which I have put in but there is an orange light flashing.  I have tried resetting the printer (as per google ) and taking power cable out, waiting 5 minutes before putting it back on again but its still there.  Desperately need my printer to work - so frustrating - any ideas!

Hi @cavi67,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the flashing orange light on your HP DeskJet 4130e printer typically indicates an issue related to the printer's cartridge, paper, or an internal error. Since you've already tried resetting the printer, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot:

1. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Ensure Proper Installation: Open the printer's cartridge access door and confirm that the new cartridges are installed correctly. Remove and reinsert them to make sure they are seated properly.
  • Check for Protective Tape: If it's a new cartridge, ensure that the protective tape (usually a plastic strip) has been removed from the cartridge.

2. Paper Jams or Paper Tray

  • Check for Paper Jams: Even a small piece of paper or debris could trigger the flashing orange light. Carefully inspect the paper path, including the input and output trays.
  • Paper Tray: Make sure the paper tray is properly loaded with paper and that there are no misaligned sheets.

3. Printer Status

  • Cancel Any Pending Jobs: If there are any print jobs stuck in the queue, it can cause the printer to display an error. Cancel these jobs via your computer's printer settings.
  • Check Printer for Errors: Look at the printer's display or the app (if you're using one) to see if it shows any specific error codes.

4. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Hard Reset: Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable. Wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and then turn it on. This may help clear any errors.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve issues. You can check for firmware updates on the HP website or through the HP Smart app if you have it installed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
