When I click on print, the printer gets the message, and sounds like it is going to print, but then it stops and says "paper is too small. Use a larger paper size. Job was cancelled." I am using 8 x 11 paper. I have never used anything larger. I have made sure that the printing request is filled out correctly including paper size. What can I do?

Hello, @charlton49
I appreciate all your efforts in trying to get the printer working. But I'm afraid that there is a printer hardware failure and might need the hardware repair options 😞
You have already tried to perform a power drain and to use the Windows drivers. You can try and use the machine on a different PC and check if that helps. If the issue is the same, then I'd suggest you look for a new printer as this one might have run its course.
Hope that helps! Let me know!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @charlton49 – Greetings!
Thanks for engaging in the HP Forums! I see by your post that you are having trouble with your HP printer. I will certainly do my best to help you 🙂
Going through your post, I understand that printer is having trouble printing with your Photosmart printer.
Let’s first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.
If the issue persists, then I’d suggest you install the printer using the Windows driver update.
First, open Windows Device Installation Settings and confirm that your computer is set to automatically download driver software.
- Search Windows for Change Device Installation, and then click the Change device installation settings Control Panel setting in the list of results.
- Device Installation Settings window displays.
- Select the Yes option, and then click Save Changes.
Now, follow the steps listed under step 3 here: http://hp.care/2oSqtTW
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @charlton49
Try performing a power drain on the printer as suggested below:
- Remove the cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
If the issue persists then the issue could be with the printer hardware 😞
Please contact the HP phone support to get the printer service options.
