Hi @jdgee,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Printer Error Code 49, which you're encountering on your HP LaserJet MFP M139-M142, is typically related to a communication issue between the printer and its network or a specific job that it's trying to process. This error can be triggered by various factors, including issues with the printer's firmware, a corrupted print job, or network communication problems. Since your printer has been working well for 6 months and is now having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi alongside displaying this error, we can consider a few troubleshooting steps that might resolve the issue.
Clear the Print Queue: Sometimes, a corrupted print job in the queue can cause this error. Clearing the print queue from your computer or any device that sent a job to the printer can help.
Restart the Printer: Turning the printer off, waiting for about 30 seconds, and then turning it back on can help reset its state and potentially clear the error.
Firmware Update: Check if there's an available firmware update for your printer. An outdated firmware can lead to various issues, including error 49. You can find firmware updates on HP's official website by looking for your printer model and navigating to its support page. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16
Check Network Settings: Since the error occurred alongside Wi-Fi connectivity issues, reviewing the printer's network settings can be beneficial. Ensure that the network settings haven’t been changed or reset. Re-establishing the connection to your Wi-Fi network might be necessary.
Reset the Printer: If the error persists, performing a factory reset on the printer can help. Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count. CAUTION: Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also deletes any pages that are stored in the memory. 1. Open the HP Embedded Web Server. See Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS). 2. On the System tab, click Service. 3. In the Restore Defaults area, click the Restore defaults button. The printer automatically restarts.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you "Rachel571",
Your help and time spent on this topic in order to help is nothing short of outstanding!
My issue has been resolved. Having a corrupted print job seemed to be the primary issue.
Clearing that, and then restarting my printer has everything operating as it should.
Thanks again!!!
