Hi @Katey3
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
If your HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer is automatically defaulting to "Cancel" when you try to print on Windows 11, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue. This problem may occur due to software issues, printer settings, or even communication errors between the printer and the computer.
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you fix the issue:
1. Check the Printer Queue
- Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
- Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Find and select your HP ENVY 4500 from the list of printers.
- Click on Open Queue.
- If you see any stuck or canceled print jobs, select them and click Cancel or Delete.
- Restart the printer and try printing again.
2. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on again.
3. Update Printer Drivers
- Go to HP's Support Website click here and enter your printer model.
- Download the latest printer drivers and install them.
- After installation, restart your computer and try printing again.
4. Reinstall the Printer
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP ENVY 4500, and click Remove Device.
- Restart your computer.
- Add the printer back by clicking Add a printer or scanner and selecting your printer from the list.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
5. Check Printer Settings
- Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP ENVY 4500 printer and select Printer properties.
- In the Advanced tab, ensure that the correct options are selected for your printer.
- If you see an option to "Pause Printing," make sure it's unchecked.
6. Run the Windows Printer Troubleshooter
- Open Settings by pressing Windows + I.
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters.
- Scroll down and click on Printer, then click Run.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.
7. Clear the Printer Spooler
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type services.msc and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find Print Spooler in the list of services.
- Right-click on it and select Stop.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.
- Return to the Services window, right-click on Print Spooler, and select Start.
- Restart your computer and try printing again.
8. Check for Printer Firmware Updates, click here
Ensure that your printer firmware is up-to-date:
- Open the HP Smart app or use the HP Printer Assistant software.
- Check for available firmware updates and install them if necessary.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
