Hi @Pster76,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue with the print queue or communication between the HP DeskJet 3720 and your computer may be experiencing intermittent issues.
Here are a few possible causes and steps to troubleshoot:
Possible Causes:
- Print Queue Errors: There might be stuck or incomplete print jobs in the queue, which require manual intervention each time.
- Driver Issues: The printer driver could be outdated or corrupted, causing the print command to fail until the troubleshooting tool is run.
- Connection Problems: If the printer is connected wirelessly, it could be having trouble maintaining a stable connection to your computer, resulting in the need to reset the connection each time.
- Print Spooler Service: This service manages print jobs. If it is malfunctioning or crashing, it might need to be restarted regularly.
Clear the Print Queue:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your DeskJet 3720 and choose "See what's printing."
- If there are any stuck print jobs, clear them.
Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver: Software and Drivers for HP DeskJet 3720 All-in-One Printer
- Visit the HP Support website and check for the latest driver for the HP DeskJet 3720.
- Uninstall the current driver by going to Device Manager > Printers, then reinstall the updated driver.
Check Wireless Connection:
- If using WiFi, ensure that both the printer and the computer are on the same network and that the signal strength is strong.
- You can also try reconnecting the printer to the WiFi through the HP Smart app to ensure it is properly linked.
Restart the Print Spooler Service:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler in the list, right-click it, and select "Restart."
- If it was set to "Manual," you can change it to "Automatic" by right-clicking it, selecting Properties, and setting the startup type to Automatic.
HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- You can use this official tool from HP to automatically detect and fix many printing problems. Download and run the tool from the HP website.
