Hi @glcomstock2

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thanks for explaining the issue so clearly. That persistent error—“There is a problem with the printer or print system”—is more than just a nuisance. It typically signals a deeper firmware or driver-level fault, especially on Windows 11 systems paired with HP+ printers like the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery approach to help you get back up and running:

1. Perform a Semi-Full Reset on the Printer

This clears internal memory and restores factory defaults.

  • Power off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • While plugging the cord back in, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release and wait for the printer to boot.

If the error persists, continue with the next step.

2. Uninstall and Reinstall HP Software on Windows 11

Corrupted drivers or HP Smart services can trigger this error.

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
  • Remove HP Smart, HP OfficeJet Pro 8025e drivers, and any related HP software.
  • Restart your PC.
  • Download the latest full software package from HP’s official driver page for the 8025e.

3. Update Printer Firmware via USB

If the printer is stuck in an error loop, a firmware update may still be possible via direct connection.

  • Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
  • Download the latest firmware utility from HP’s support site.
  • Run the utility and follow on-screen instructions.

This bypasses network-based update failures and can restore system integrity.

4. Check for HP+ or Instant Ink Lockout

If the printer was previously enrolled in HP+, it may be locked due to account or service issues.

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Sign in with your HP account.
  • Check for any subscription alerts, setup requirements, or pending firmware updates.

5.  Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

You’ve done everything right so far—let’s get this resolved.
