Hi @14Darius,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer not detecting the new ink cartridges and you've already tried reinserting them and using the old cartridges with no success, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot:

May I know

1. Have you made any changes on your printer post that this issue raised and have you observed any light blinking on the display or error code

2. May I know if you are using genuine HP cartridges

1. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Confirm Authenticity: Ensure the cartridges you purchased are genuine HP cartridges. Amazon can sometimes have third-party or counterfeit products sold as genuine.
    • Look for HP branding on the packaging and compare the cartridge design with your old ones.
  • Inspect for Damage: Check the new cartridges for any visible damage, including:
    • Scratches on the chip.
    • Leaking or broken components.
  • Remove Protective Tapes: Ensure any protective tape or film covering the cartridge’s copper contacts or ink nozzles has been removed.

2. Clean the Cartridge ContactsHow to Clean Printer Heads: A Guide to Better Ink Efficiency

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and in the printer.
  • Let them dry for 5-10 minutes before reinserting.

3. Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Reinsert the cartridges and check if the printer detects them.

4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with newer cartridges.
  • Connect the printer to your computer or WiFi.
  • Go to HP's website and download the latest firmware update for the HP Officejet Pro 8600.

5. Test with Another Cartridge

  • If you have another set of cartridges (new or old), test them to see if the issue is specific to the ones you purchased.

6. Factory Reset (Last Resort)

  • Perform a factory reset to clear potential software glitches:
    • Navigate to the Setup menu on your printer screen.
    • Go to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
