HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

printer missing random lines. Out of 20 copies made from a "Pages" Open Office file, the first page printed completely, the other 19 were missing the same 2 lines in the middle of the document. Then I printed 10 copies from the same file saved as  a PDF format and the first page printed completely, 2 through 7 printed missing the same 2 lines, then pages 8 through 10 printed completely. What the heck is going on ???????

Hi @ChristineFS

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your printer is experiencing intermittent issues with missing lines during printing, which can be frustrating. This problem could be caused by a variety of factors, such as clogged printheads, driver issues, or even file formatting inconsistencies.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Clean the Printhead

  1. Access the printer’s Maintenance menu and select the Clean Printhead option.
  2. Run the cleaning cycle multiple times if necessary.
  3. Print a test page to check if the issue persists.

Step 2: Check Ink Levels

  1. Ensure all ink cartridges have sufficient ink.
  2. Replace any cartridges that are low or depleted.

Step 3: Update Printer Drivers

  1. Visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  2. Install the updated drivers and restart your computer and printer.

Step 4: Adjust Print Settings

  1. Open the print dialog box and check the Print Quality settings.
  2. Set the quality to Best or High to ensure consistent printing.

Step 5: Test with Different Files

  1. Save the file in another format (e.g., DOCX, PDF, or RTF) and try printing again.
  2. Check if the issue occurs with other files or only with the specific document.

Step 6: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Step 7: Inspect the Paper Feed

  1. Ensure the paper is loaded correctly and the tray is not overfilled.
  2. Check for any obstructions or debris in the paper feed mechanism.
