Hi @MariJB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the update — if your HP ENVY 7640 is printing faint or incomplete pages even after installing new cartridges and running diagnostics, it's likely a problem with clogged printheads, air in the ink lines, or cartridge installation.

Let’s go step by step to fix this:

Step 1: Check Cartridge Packaging

Make sure:

  • You removed the orange plastic tab and tape from the copper/gold contacts on each cartridge.
  • The cartridges clicked fully into place in the carriage.

Step 2: Run “Clean Printhead” Utility

This will clear clogged nozzles and improve print quality.

  1. On the printer touchscreen:
    • Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead
  2. Run the cleaning and print a test page.
  3. If the result is still faint, run the clean cycle again (up to 3 times).

⚠️ If you clean it more than 3 times, it may use a lot of ink. If it’s not improving, move to the next step.

Step 3: Align the Printhead

After cleaning:

  1. Go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printer
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Step 4: Check Ink Levels

Even new cartridges can fail. On the touchscreen:

  • Go to Ink Levels or Estimated Ink Levels and confirm both black and color cartridges are showing full.

If any are blinking, empty, or not recognized, it could be a defective or incompatible cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
