Hi @Skeleton8,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M83fdw shows an “OFFENDING COMMAND” error when printing a credit card statement from a website. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and what the message means.

What the message means (in simple terms):
The “OFFENDING COMMAND” error indicates that the printer received print data it cannot interpret. This usually happens when a website, PDF, or browser sends complex or corrupted print instructions that the printer’s firmware or driver cannot process correctly. It is a data/driver formatting issue, not a hardware failure.

Try printing as a PDF instead of directly from the website
On the credit card website, choose Download / Save as PDF first.
Open the saved PDF and print it locally instead of printing directly from the browser.

Change the print driver being used
Go to Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and open Printer Properties.
Under Advanced, switch the driver from PCL6 to PostScript (PS) or vice versa, then try printing again.

Print from a different browser
Try printing the same statement using another browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox).
Some websites generate print code that only fails in certain browsers.

Disable advanced printing features
Open Printer Properties > Advanced.
Uncheck Enable advanced printing features, apply changes, and test printing again.

Check paper size and scaling settings
In the print dialog, confirm the paper size matches what is loaded (A4 or Letter).
Set scaling to 100% or Actual size, not “Fit to page”.

Update the printer firmware
Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a browser.
Check for firmware updates and install them, as firmware fixes often address command errors.

Clear the print queue and restart devices
Cancel all pending print jobs.
Restart the printer and computer to clear any corrupted print data.

I hope this helps.
