Deskjet 6540
Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

Black cartridge light began flashing on Deskjet 6540 and black ink would not print.  Replaced cartridge with new HP 94 Cartridge.  Light continued to flash and documents sent to queue will not print.  Reviewed advice in HP forums for similar problems.  Checked that cartridge was properly seated.  Did printer reset by unplugging power cord from printer and from wall outlet.  Downloaded and ran HP Print and Scan Dr.  Found no suggestions not already tried.  Am running Windows 10 but not sure of mode.

Did you try cleaning the cartridge contacts on the carriage? Open door as if you are changing cartridges and then pull the power plug. Remove the cartridges and gently clean the gold contacts on the carriage with a water dampened qtip. Allow to try fully and then plug back in and start up without the cartridges in. Reinstall the cartridges when prompted.

Repairatrooper,

Good idea.  I should have thought to try that already, however in this case, the problem remains the same.  Looks like I may be shopping for a new printer.

thanks,
