I removed the white print roller to remove a piece of jammed paper.  Now I cannot replace the white roller and I have been trying for an hour.

Hi @eacreasey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for reaching out. We understand that while clearing a paper jam, you removed the white paper roller, and you're now unable to reinstall it. We'd be happy to help you get it back into place.

To provide the correct guidance, could you please let us know:

  • What is the exact HP printer model or product number?
  • Which white roller was removed? Was it from the rear access area, input tray, output area, or another location?
  • Was the roller removed intentionally following a guide, or did it come out accidentally while removing the jam?
  • Does the roller appear damaged, or do the clips and tabs look intact?

If possible, please share:

  • A clear photo of the white roller (both sides).
  • A photo of the area inside the printer where the roller fits.
  • A wider photo of the rear or inside of the printer, so we can identify the correct mounting location.

In the meantime, please avoid forcing the roller back into place, as excessive pressure can damage the retaining clips or the roller assembly.

Before trying again:

  • Make sure the printer is turned off and unplugged.
  • Inspect the roller and the mounting points for any broken plastic tabs or pieces of paper that may be preventing it from seating correctly.
  • Verify that the roller is oriented correctly, as many HP paper feed rollers are keyed and will only fit in one direction.
  • Gently align both ends of the roller with their mounting slots before applying light, even pressure.

Once you share the printer model and the requested photos, we'll be able to identify the correct roller position and guide you through reinstalling it safely.

We look forward to your update.

Take care and have a great day!

I'm an HP Employee.
