Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.
When you set up your HP printer on your computer with the recommended HP software, a print driver installs that provides you access to the features your printer supports.
The print driver lets you change color, paper, quality settings and more when printing documents, photos, and web pages.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Is the print drivers installed on the computer?
Are you getting any error while printing?
Could you please brief the issue in detail to assist you better.
However in the meanwhile, using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-3600-printer-series/304534/model/397875/document/c02... for Print Driver Settings Guide.
Eager to assist you!
Cheers:)

Thank you Raj1788
unfortunatelly while going through the HP literature I have read that there is no way to use the deskjet 3420 with win_10 so probably our efforts are vane , what do you think?
Anyhow I had installed the original driver first, then the 3600, and in both cases the printer appeared to be not on line with an error message in one case saying of some wrong thing.
Thanks for your attention
Have a good day

Thanks for the reply,
Windows contains built-in printer drivers for many types of printers. These drivers support basic printer functionality for most print jobs.
Use this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 and try Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.
HAve a great day!
