Hi @RichardH1960 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro M118dw is displaying a "paper jam" error even when there is no jam, here are several troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Hidden Jams

  • Open all access doors (front, back, and any side doors) to check for any small pieces of paper or foreign objects that might be causing the error.
  • Ensure that the toner cartridge and drum are properly seated.

3. Clear the Printer Queue

  • On your Mac, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
  • Clear any stuck print jobs.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Press and hold the Go button for about 5 seconds while the printer is powered on. This will reset the printer and may clear any error messages.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Ensure you have the latest drivers for macOS 10.15 Catalina:
    • Go to the HP Support website.
    • Search for your printer model and download the latest drivers.
  • You can also remove the printer and add it again in Printers & Scanners settings.

6. Check the Paper Path Sensors

  • Sometimes, the sensors that detect paper jams can get stuck or malfunction. Ensure they are clean and unobstructed. You can use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe any dust.
