My printer was working OK and then the next document I sent to print did not print.

I can see the document in the print queue on the Mac computer but there is no printer response. It says the printer is not connected.

I have confirmed that there is no fault on the network using the Mac System Preferences tool.

I have tried resetting the router to no avail.

I have tested the wireless connection between the Mac and the 8720 and get a printed report that all tests have been passed.

I have shut down the Mac and restarted it from cold again to no avail.

I am now at my wits end as to how to get back to being able to print.

Anny suggestions please?

Hi @brerbear,

I have reviewed the post comprehensively. You've done great here by displaying remarkable commonsense which is most uncommon. I for one believe like you that we should never disturb a good working setup if it works correctly. That is the result of years of faulty experiences and gaining wisdom the hard way from my experiences.

However, you are smart. You hit the nail on its head right away to not disrupt a working setup.Kudos to you for that. 🙂

Yes if the issue resurfaces, then try the steps mentioned. Based on your first post the steps were given to fix the issue.

Hi @brerbear,

Good Day. Thanks for visiting the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding issues with printing from your Mac. Superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 🙂 I will gladly assist you here.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a Software or MAC update?

For now, try these steps:

Reset the mac printing system from this link: http://hp.care/2gOrf2g

Then add the printer by following these steps:

1.) Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

3.) In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.

4.) Click the Add button.

5.) Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer.

7.) Avoid the AirPrint driver. Once the correct HP driver is chosen, select Add to add the printer to the list.

8.) Try to print.

  • This should fix the issue for you.
  • If this does not work, please follow all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2ympP41 for resolving printer offline issues.
  • It should get fixed.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

There has been no software update made to the MAC before this problem occurred.

When the computer and printer were switched on this morning eafter being shut down for more that 24 hours everything was functioning perfecly normally.

I hate troubleshooting intermittent faults which come and go for no particuar reason.  I will leave everything alone whilst it is OK but will revert to your suggested procedure as and when the fault arises unless you think there might be a printer driver corruption of some kind
