Hi @8914,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 indicating a "printer system problem" is usually related to a hardware or firmware issue. Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

1. Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

2. Check for Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
  • Install the firmware update to ensure compatibility and fix any known issues.

3. Perform a Partial Reset

  • Caution: A partial reset will reset some printer settings.
  • Disconnect the power cord while the printer is on.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord while holding the Power button.

4. Check the Cartridges

  • Open the printer's cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to ensure they are seated properly.
  • Use only genuine HP ink cartridges.

5. Clear Any Paper Jams

  • Check all paper feed areas, including the rear access panel and tray.
  • Remove any jammed or stuck paper.
  • Ensure the paper tray is not overloaded and that the paper is aligned correctly.

6. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

  • Access the printer’s Settings menu.
  • Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Select Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.

7. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • This tool can diagnose and fix many printer problems automatically.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
