Hi @PHARMOBOB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 4100e is not pulling paper from the rear tray. Let’s go through steps to check what could be causing this.

Check Paper Type and Condition

Ensure the paper is plain, not torn, wrinkled, or damp.

Use paper that matches the printer’s recommended size and type.

Check Paper Tray / Input Path

Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the rear tray.

Adjust the paper guides so they lightly touch the edges of the paper without bending it.

Inspect for Obstructions

Open the printer and check for any paper scraps, debris, or foreign objects in the paper path.

Remove anything blocking the rollers.

Clean Paper Rollers

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water to clean the rear feed rollers.

Rotate the rollers manually to clean all sides.

Check for Multiple Sheets

Only place a few sheets at a time in the rear tray to avoid misfeeds.

Perform a Printer Reset

Turn off the printer and unplug it for 30–60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Try feeding paper again.

Test with Different Paper

Try using a different type or brand of paper to rule out compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.
