I am glad things are working.  I do not know if Windows Updates have any effect, but I have seen some cases where the recent 1709 update has caused issues.  It is possible that Microsoft has responded with a fix, which they generally apply without notice.  You can check the update history by clicking Start, type "update history" without the quotes, then click on "View installed update history".  You might look through the updates and see if any correspond to the time the issues happened or were resolved.

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model (there are many Envy models)?  Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?

Do areas that should be in color not print at all, or are they printed in black and white?

Bob, first off I would like to tell you that I received an email yesterday about this problem, with a number in it to call. After being on the phone with them in India and them telling me that they were HP, I realized that they weren't . I don't know who to report this too, maybe you know??

Anyway concerning the problem, I have an HP Envy 7645. There are no error messages, it will print but no areas of color all black and white. When I go into print and then printer properties, evervything like general everyday printing, twoo sided printing, fast/ecomical printing and factory defaults all have a dead bolt lock on it. I have attached 2 pictures.20171124_120602 (1).jpg20171124_120655.jpg

Arrgh - sorry to hear you were affected by the scammers.  I would ask that you go into the Private Message system by clicking on the envelope icon at the top right of the page when you are logged into the forum.    This will show you the messages you have (which are also sent in email). Click on the subject of the message from the scammer.  This will open the message.  At this point please do a couple things:  First hit Reply at the bottom.  When the reply window comes up remove the scammers name from the "Send to" box and type in my username:  Bob_Headrick.  In the body of the message click on "Quote" which will include the original message.  Next click Send Message, which will send me the message and take you to the "sent" tab.  Click on the Inbox tab, then click once more on the message.  After the message opens click on the blue "Report Inappropriate Content" box.  A new window will open with a box to type in why you are reporting the message.  Tell the moderator you have been approached by a fake agent.  When you have typed the message click the Notify Moderator.

My understanding is that areas that should be color are printing in black and white.

The Printing Shortcuts have pre-defined selections that you can select, the pre-defined ones show a lock.  You can make changes to the defaults and then save the new settings in the Printing Shortcut tab.  After you make custom changes a new selection will appear at the bottom of the page, "User Specified Print Settings".  Once you have made the changes you want you can select Save As, which will give you the B&W only printing try the following:  go to the Devices and Printers folder, right click on the Envy  to change the name of the Printing Shortcut to whatever you want.  Click Apply when you are done.

To deal with the Grayscale only printing try the following:  go to the Devices and Printers folder.  Right click on the HP ENVY 7640 series, Printing Preferences, Paper/Quality.  Make sure the Color selection is checked, Apply, OK.

This should resolve the issue.  If not, please confirm the printer will properly make a color copy.

Bob, thank you for helping me with this. The printer will print in color. I have run the tests and it does copy in color. Here is a picture of what you said to do, mine does not give me the option of clicking it on color and there is no20171125_141810.jpg option to unlock those dead bolts. I have put the printer on default

There are no errors on the computer or the printer because it prints but everything is in a black/gray tone. It prints like everything is fine, just no color other then black and different tones of gray

The screen shot I took was from the driver on the HP site that I downloaded and installed a few days ago.  In the screen that was missing the Color option I see you have the Advanced tab.  If you click on the Advanced tab do you have a "Print in grayscale" option?  If so make sure this is set to "Off", OK, Apply.

If turning this off does not resolve the issue I would suggest you download and install the driver again from the HP site here.

Also I would like you to know that I have tried to send you a copy of the spam emails I recieved, but everytime I compose an email here, it will not send because it says to put a "value" in the subject? I can send it this , if that is okay?
