LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the same problem as described here:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/laserjet-pro200-m276nw-device-error/td-p/6883422

When I try to print, one sheet will print then it will start a cleaning cycle.

Once cleaning mode is over, the screen will display:

"Device Error". This happens every single time, after every single page printed.

Shutting off the printer, pulling the plug on the printer (on both ends) after removing the cartridges, power draining

does not help.  I have the current driver loaded.   I believe I have the current firmware loaded.

Doing an NVRAM Reset  and  "another course of action"  was suggested in the thread above by @CrazyToad

I'd be happy to try the same if someone could provide the details?

THANKS!

JIm

Hi @Hoser88,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with your LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw seems to be related to a persistent device error that occurs after printing a single page and during the cleaning cycle. Given that standard troubleshooting steps haven't resolved the problem, here's a more detailed approach you can follow, including the NVRAM reset and additional steps.

NVRAM Reset

The Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM) reset can sometimes resolve persistent errors by resetting the printer's internal settings to their defaults.

Steps to Perform NVRAM Reset:

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Make sure the printer is powered off.
  2. Access the Service Mode:
    • Power On: Press and hold the * and # buttons simultaneously.
    • Turn On: While holding the * and # buttons, turn the printer on.
    • Wait: Keep holding the buttons until the printer’s display shows a series of codes or the service menu.
  3. Select NVRAM Reset:
    • Use the navigation buttons to find the NVRAM Reset option.
    • Confirm the selection to perform the reset.
  4. Restart: After the reset completes, the printer will restart. Check if the issue persists.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • Paper Path Issues: Inspect the paper path for any obstructions or foreign objects that might be causing the error.
  • Cartridges: Ensure the toner cartridges and drum units are properly seated and are not damaged.

Firmware Update

Even though you mentioned you have the current firmware, it might be worth checking again for any updates:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install the latest firmware update if available.

Service Mode Actions

If the NVRAM reset doesn’t resolve the issue, try performing a different service mode action:

  1. Enter Service Mode: Similar to the NVRAM reset, but look for other options like Engine Test or Diagnostic Mode.
  2. Perform Engine Test: This test helps identify if there are mechanical issues with the printer’s components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden4  @Alden4

THANKS very much for the details on this!

The printer is at a friends' house and they are out of town, but as soon as they return,

I will try this out and report back with the results.

Again, THANKS!

Hi Alden4

My friend is finally back in town.

I was unable to perform the NVRAM reset as the procedure said to press the  *   and   #   at the same time while powering on...

This laserjet pro200 m276nw does not have any buttons, only a touch panel display, so ... i was confused.

I did do a  "restore defaults"  which did not help, and checked firmware a 2nd time.

The installed firmware was the latest - 20190401,

but I downloaded and re-installed what was on the site just to be sure, but it did not help either.

I also ran the Print & Scan Doctor s/w - it came back clean.

I could not find the "service mode" menu, so could not perform the engine test.

Let me know what you think,

thank you for your help!
