HP printer 2510 series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

have and HP computer running on windows 10 64 bit OS  II have had an HP 2510 series printer for about four years.  This past Dec 2018 I I bought and installed an  HP envy photo printer,

I did not uninstall my HP 2510  I left it as an additiona printerl.  I found I didn't like the new printer so I tried to go back to my old HP 2510 series.   It won't print now.  As I said, I did not uninstall the 2510.  The computer now says it does not recognize the printer.  I can't figure this out.  I just installed new HP ink cartridges but the 2510 shows empty ink cartridges with a red X in the display.  I am not very computer literate as I am sure you can tell.  Can someone help me please.  Thank you.  jackie1bb

I can offer some limited advice...

"Not recognized" is likely not a problem of having the printer set as the "Default" printing device - do check in case this is all that is wrong.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Right-Click on the printer (if found) and select "Set as Default" (wording is likely different)

If this is your printer:

HP Deskjet 2510 All-in-One Printer series

then

The Full Feature Software is still available.

The printer software is "old" by Windows standards (dated 2015) - much has changed in Windows since Windows 10 was introduced.

The softwware may still work in your Windows 10 and it is worth a try.

If needful, uninstall the Printer software from Programs and Features, then Restart the computer and log in.

Download the Full Feature Software installation package.

Open File Explorer

Navigate to the folder in which you have saved the package.

  • After download: If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator
  • After the software is installed:  Restart the computer and log in

For example, Video help for installing the software is available on the Software and Drivers website - scroll to the bottom of the page, view all, and select a video to watch.
