Help - I tried everything & I can't get scan to work again!!!

I have had my HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g for 3-4 years now. My scan to email / Network folder / computer had been set up perfectly & had been working flawlessly for all of that time. No other issues with the printer - love it!

About 4-5 weeks ago, I tried to scan something to email & I got a pop-up stating that "The connection was not private". I do have auto update enabled on my iMac, and there had been Apple updates applied during the preceding two months or so. Can't say if the updates are related or not. Not sure exactly when scan stopped working. But I hadn't ever made any changes to the printer, its software & drivers, or its configuration before scan stopped working. Just started popping up the "connection not private" warning all of a sudden.

I went into "Keychain Access" on my iMAC to check the cert. It showed an HP login cert [HP3BBD57], with a create date of Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 7:17:20 AM Eastern Daylight Time, and an expiration date of June 5, 1902 at 11:49:04 PM. Note: I hadn't changed anything to do with the cert prior to this problem.

I tried to access the "email profiles" link through the EWS GUI "Scan" tab. Got the same "connection not private" pop-up. I OKed through the pop-up warning prompts, registering the cert/URL as "trusted", and tried forcing the connection through to the site anyway. I tried that multiple times [don't mention it - I'm familiar with the old adage about the definition of insanity...], unsucessfully.

Brought up a "private" browser & entered the EWS URL [tried via 192.168.1.153, http://hpa45d3634a374.local. AND https://hpa45d3634a374.local. Got the same warning pop-ups when trying to access the "email profiles" link from the "Scan" tab via the "private" browser session. I also tried creating new "certificate preferences" [via the iMac Keychain Access window] to each of the specific pages linked from the EWS Scan tab. Nothing cleared the issue. Also tried the EWS from Chrome & Firefox, receiving the same error.

I then restored the printer to factory settings via "settings" on the printer, uninstalled the HP software from my iMac, downloaded the software & printer drivers from the HP Support Site, reinstalled everything, & reconnected the printer. After all that, I tried the scan again: same [unsucessful] result.

I searched the "HP Support Community" & carefully followed SEVERAL of the prescribed fixes described on the site. Still nothing worked. Went so far as to try a 'hard reset" on the printer as described by HP employees on the Support Site [power printer off, then on, then hit "back" arrow 4 times to get the admin GUI]. Tried multiple time, but couldn't get the Admin GUI to appear, nor a "hard reset".

Went thorugh multiple iterations of the above procedures without success.

Can someone assist with a fix that they got to actually work? I'm pulling my hair out, and I don't have much more to spare!

Thanks!!

A warm welcome to HP Community!

The printer EWS(Embedded web server page) is not an HTTPS website it's an HTTP website, I believe its just a warning message from web browser indicating that you are leaving a secured page to a non secured web page. You may click on "visit this website" or "Proceed to 192.xxx.xxx.xxx" to view the printer EWS page.

Let me know how it goes!
