My 8740 HP Printer is linked to HP InstantInk.  I've just tried to update the printer firmware and get a message  that Printer UPdate settings are locked (by HP Instant Ink)... How can I update the firmware (as recommended by HP...)?

Hey there! @DickE203,

First, try performing a factory reset on your printer and check if it helps.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the
Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Printer Maintenance.
3. Touch Restore.
4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults.
A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.
5. Touch Restore.

Refer the printer user guide for more information.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try performing a semi-full reset on your printer and check if it helps.

As the steps to perform semi-full reset on your printer is confidential and dedicated to your printer. I will share the steps through a private message, please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

@DickE203

Can you let me know where you are seeing this message (printer front panel, computer screen, etc..) and when it is appearing exactly (are you seeing it when you are on the HP support website trying to download the FW or are you clicking a link that was sent to you)?

If possible could you take a picture of the message and post in your response.

I'd like to help you get past this error message but need a bit more info to figure out what is happening.

Thanks,

JillSa
