Hello there! I have had my printer for a few weeks now, and still am not able to print anything from it. Scanning works fine, however, there is a constant "waiting for ink choice" loading text on the screen of the printer. I have dont the hard reset three times which was suggested in previous online forums, and I have also taken out the ink cartidges and placed them back in. I then updated the printer with the most recent HP firmware I found in another HP online forum about this. Still, nothing has worked! 😞 Any suggestions?

Next to the display screen on the printer you should find a glowing "?" (question mark). Click on that and answer the question about setting up Instant Ink or not. Once you do that, the setup process will complete.

It is NOT an intuitive setup process with this last step. Hopefully this will do the trick for you and you can stop wasting your day setting up this printer.

@jessica_tms,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to print and getting a waiting for ink choice message.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Have you enrolled for Instant Ink?
  • Are you using the setup cartridges or Instant ink cartridges?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Meanwhile, you can sign up for Instant Ink but the subscription (and charges) do not start until you install one or more Instant Ink cartridges in the printer.  You should be able to say, "No HP Instant Ink" at setup and use the setup cartridges until they are depleted.  Once the setup cartridges are depleted you can replace them with the Instant Ink cartridges and your subscription will start or else you can continue using the retail cartridges.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Several months after you posted, I found this. You deserve a medal. Obvious maybe but easy to  miss.
