Can anyone help. I have always used refilled ink cartridges. I have used the cartridges and I have several sets so I can refill and switch them out. I have used the cartridges and I was refilled an older yellow and now it just shows the empty level. Please don't tell me this printer blocks refilled cartridges. I will throw this thing in the trash if that is the case.

@RaeDaniels, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
HP does not recommend the use of non-HP inks. It may or may not work.
The print quality cannot be guaranteed.
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
The third party ink cartridges will work. But there are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
If the issue persists, refer to - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers
There is no option to downgrade the printer firmware. If you find posts/instructions on the same from other community members, You may try it at your own discretion.
You may purchase replacement cartridges and other supplies from the HP Store or local retailers.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
