Printer in error state. Reset printer by turning it off & on. Lost 5 pages in spool file. I cannot get back what pages were to be printed. Upset

I don't see a question here; perhaps one is implied.

 

Yes, some actions do delete jobs from the queue.   The Windows File System controls the job queue and the Printer Service.

 

The "reprint / save jobs" setup may be available on your Dell -- and if it is, it might help in the future:

 

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click on your Printer > Printer Properties>

(If necessary) Change Properties > Tab Advanced >

Select Keep printed documents > Apply > OK

Includes Event Viewer – Log and track activity

 

In the event that things really go sideways, it is still possible that you can lose the "saved" job content.  For example, if the PRINTERS folder is emptied, the "reprint" files are lost. 

 

It might be easy enough to add this folder to your backups.  It would still be necessary to save / back up the data before the queue entries were lost.
