Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

my scanner quit working on my Office Jet Pro 6960. Doesn't work from the computer (running Mac OS Sonoma) and doesn't work when I simply push the scan button on the printer. I've updated everything and tried all the HP Smart tools. I get this error message: "Scan to computer-- You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer."  (that person is me!) Help!
