@maria8177, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
When you observe lines appearing on scanned or copied documents, it typically indicates that the scanner glass or the document feeder glass has debris or requires cleaning. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:
Clean the Scanner Glass and Document Feeder Glass:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from the electrical outlet.
- Open the scanner lid.
- Clean the scanner glass and the document feeder strips with a soft cloth or sponge that has been moistened with non-abrasive glass cleaner.
- CAUTION: Do not use abrasives, acetone, benzene, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, or carbon tetrachloride on any part of the printer as these can damage it. Do not place liquids directly on the glass or platen as they might seep and damage the printer.
- Dry the glass and white plastic parts with a chamois or a cellulose sponge to prevent spotting.
- Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on.
Locate and Remove Debris:
- Place a blank sheet of paper in the document feeder and mark an "X" in the lower right corner.
- Make a copy and place the copied paper face-up on the flatbed glass with the "X" in the correct position.
- Follow the line or streak on the paper to the area on the document feeder glass causing the issue. Use a fingernail to loosen any stubborn debris.
- Clean this specific area again with a lint-free cloth dampened with water and then dry the glass with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Make another copy or scan to check if the defect is resolved.
Modify Printer Settings:
- Adjust printer settings to improve scan or copy quality. Use the sliders to perform Background Cleanup, adjust the image Darkness, Sharpness, and Contrast.
- Optimize Text/Picture settings for better output based on the type of content.
- Enable automatic color detection to help improve image quality.
I hope this helps.
