Every time i send a print job to the printer it appears to start but then stops with a message on screen saying
"Finishing Printing, Wait until the printer finishes before you push in the output tray extender"
but it does not print anything?

Hi @TheDon59,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 4650 All-In-One Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove the USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
Update the printer firmware
- Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
- Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.
- Check the video for the print job
If the issue persists, then please follow the steps mentioned in this document:

Hello Gaya1239, thanks for your reply apologies for the delayed response i have been away.
i have tried each and every solution that you mention, i did think the power drain sorted it out as i was able to print several documents yesterday, however when i came to print this morning it did not print, not the usual on screen message but now "printer offline" so i have followed yours and many others on the forum (47 with same issue) and not been able to cure the offline error, i installed scan doctor which could not even detect my printer at all?
So I uninstalled the printer, the drivers, HP smart and started fresh, procedure was as follows:
restarted router
restarted PC
installed HP Smart to my PC
restarted 4650 printer
run HP Smart to add printer but unfortunately it could not find the 4650 device, even did it manually by entering the IP address and still could not find it, so i started the process again as above, this time HP Smart detected the 4650 and showed on my screen with a green dot but when i selected it the dot went red and the message was "choose a printer that is on and on the same network as your computer" after 5 attempts of entering the IP address HP Smart finally found the 4650 and it was added successfully, all was good.
then this afternoon at 5pm (UK time) i needed to print several work documents and now i get the same message "printer offline" and no matter how i try to find the 4650, its gone its not in the printer list, HP Smart showing no printer just "add device" even entering the IP address on my PC the printer cannot be found?
I am totally at a loss what to do next, it maybe that i need to buy a new printer as i have had this about 2 years now (bought new) the issue i have is that i have in stock 4 black HP302 cartridges and 3 colour HP 302 cartridges so changing the printer is not good unless there is a new model HP wifi device that prints, copies and scans that uses the same 302 cartridges??
i await your helpful response.
