After 2 or 3 pages printing there are streaks especially in Magenta and a little in Cyan.

Printing a self test diagnostic page I get  a message under Printhead status / refilled supply:

Detected in printer?

Magenta no/cyan yes.

all other colors in "detected in printhead" and "detected in printer" show yes.

I always can print a couple of pages ok and then the 3rd or 4th page start streaking. After less then a minute of pause I can again print a couple of pages.

Any idea what may be wrong?

As I understand you are having print quality issues on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Are you able to make a copy from the printer?

Have you tried to clean the cartridges contacts as well as the rollers?

Is it a vertical streak or horizontal streaks?

In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard Reset on the Printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Let’s first try and make a “photocopy” to determine whether the issue is with the printer or not. Place a document on the scanner glass and choose “Copy” option. If the printer is making a good copy, then the printer hardware is fine.

If this is to do with the Horizontal streaks, then this could be an issue with the drivers or with the cartridge itself, I would suggest you clean the cartridge contacts.

If the issue is to do with Vertical streaks, then this could be an issue with the Hardware, I would suggest you try to clean the rollers as well as scanner glass.

Thank you Dvortex for your response.

I did a cleanup, linefeed, and Align several times. The problem seems mostly with magenta. I had some text with a small picture (2"x 2") but the horizontal streaks only appeared after about the third or fourth page. Strangely, printing a full page solidly with magenta came out perfect. I also got a strange test output. See picture

What does it mean that no magenta is detected in the printer but there is ink in the printhead.

What can be the reason for it?

Thank you

Hello, @Schwaeble

It looks like an issue with the cyan/magenta printhead. You might need to replace the cyan/magenta printhead to get the issue resolved.

Personally, I would suggest you check the price for the print head, also a new printer and go for the whole printer replacement if the machine is old and obsolete.

You can either order from HP phone support or contact the HP part store.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂
