HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Yesterday my printer shows black cartridge low, and after final printing task (half way, not finished), the printer report error information "the indicated cartridges are not communicating correctly with the printer, if the problem persists,  replace the cartridge.". I replaced it with a new new black instant ink cartridge I received on June 2024, but the error still there.

I  checked online in HP printer community, and try all the steps virtual assistant asked to do, including all the steps below,

1. Replace the old cartridge with the brand new HP cartridge. In between, before turning the printer “On’ after changing the cartridge leave it “off” for 10 minutes.

2. Turn the printer power button “On” after changing the cartridge.

3. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet and plug your printer power cable back in the wall.

4 Press the power button on the printer to turn the printer back on.

5. If it still does not work, clean the metal contact on the cartridges and printer where these two meet when you place the cartridge in the printer.

6. You can use soft cotton cloth or lint-free cloth to clean the contacts.

7. Reboot the printer and try to print something again.

None of these works. and I finally call the HP technical support.

The technical support guide me to disconnect the power supply and enter rest menu, did a semi-full reset. the problem is still there.

Is there any solution to fix this? I saw someone else has the same issue, and it looks like a software issue.

Hi @instantink_usr9,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that has an ink cartridge error.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

D) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day
