Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

unable to print legal size document with my HP envy photo 7164 -

The paper size isnt listed in normal applications - word, excel, Adobe etc

I tried adding a custom size (though printing properties) of 8.5x14" but the application auto-adjusts the 14" down to 12"

The Specifications for this printer are lacking in key details that explain the Media and Paper Handling requirements.

I can offer the following limited advice:

Try selecting the Media type first, select plain paper

Select the Source (Tray) as opposed to leaving the source "automatic", for example.

Leave Duplex off (for the moment)

Check the Paper Size list for the "Legal" paper size (8.5x14in)

If that works, and you need Duplex, add that option.

The point:  The printer documentation indicates that the printer supports Legal paper, and it should therefore accept a request to print on this paper size.  In some cases, specifically for paper sizes other than the standard size "Letter" (or A4, depending on your region), the size of the paper can only be matched with particular Media types (kind of paper).  For example, Media type Brochure is (likely) not compatible with paper size "legal".

Custom Paper Size Form should not be truncated, although custom paper size forms to follow the printer's hardware rules (limitations) for Media types.  For example, if Media type Photo Paper cannot not support "legal", creating a custom form for the size will not actually allow Photos to be printed at that size.

I am sorry I cannot offer anything better - lack of Spec details means a bit a searching to find the right combination and the right "order of events" to set that combination.

If the size does not show up in the list at all, it may be the printer driver (software) is in some way corrupted or not completely installed.  ??

The "HP ENVY 6200, 7100 Printers" User's Guide has a section titled "Loading Paper, Cards, Envelopes."  That section starts with instructions to "Load plain paper," within which for step 2 it states "To load large-size paper, such as legal paper, unlock and open the front of the paper tray."  This statement is followed by "Figure 2: Unlocking and opening the paper tray front."  Problem is... the figure is missing and after extensive searching, I have no lock/unlock feature that opens the front of my paper tray.  What is up with that?
