I have never changed the log in details for the EWS. However I have recently found the need to log in and am unable to. I have used the default "admin" u/n and left password field empty, also tried "admin" for both u/n and password but nothing works. I have also carried out network reset and power cycle of the printer several times but nothing works. I can see from the forum that this is a common issue and I would be grateful for some urgent assistance please.

Greetings!

Welcome back to the HP Support Community. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries. I have reviewed your post and I understand, you are trying to reset the EWS password.

Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Let's try these steps -

Network Restore - Press the Wireless button and the Cancel button from the printer control panel at the same time, and then hold them for three seconds.

To connect the printer back to the network, try these steps -

1) Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for more than three seconds to start WPS push mode. The Wireless light starts blinking.

2) Press the WPS button on your router.

NOTE: THE MOMENT YOU PRESS THE WIRELESS BUTTON ON YOUR PRINTER, WITHIN 30 SECONDS YOU SHOULD PRESS THE WPS BUTTON ON THE ROUTER.

If this step is not successful, then we need to first connect the printer to a computer using a USB and then convert the wired connection to wireless as the printer does not have a control panel to enter the Wi-Fi password.

Please refer to this link for steps.

If the issue still persists I have sent you a Private Message with the next course of action.

I recently purchased a brand new HP ENVY Photo 7858.2019-06-22.png

I am having the same problem: I do not know the default password for the EWS interface when you point a web browser at the printers IP address. I really want this to work. I have tried plugging in the USB cable and setting it up that way too but everything I see in the EWS says that it has been locked by the "administrator".

I even called HP support and they were baffled as well even after taking control of my PC remotely and investigating the issue. It's still unresolved. How did going through the USB setup resolve the problem for you?

What is the default EWS administrator name and password? I really want to get in there and reset it. I have also tried disconnecting power from the printer for 60 seconds, removing the HP ink caertridges and following the instructions to reset it...but still no luck. So annoying.

Please help guys!

Asmita,

I have followed your instructions precisely and this still does not resolve the issue for me. I still cannot find the default password or sign into the EWS (embedded web server) when I point my browser to the IP address of my hp envy photo 7858.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

-ryan
