I am trying to print onto some oval labels. I can't seem to load the sheets correctly the first time to print on the label side and not the back side... Help! I have wasted soooo much ink!

Test first:

  • Remove a single sheet of regular paper from the drawer.
  • Orient the paper on your work surface with one short side toward your body (Portrait orientation).
  • At the top of the paper, write the words "top front" - write large enough to easily see what you have written.
  • Place the sheet of paper into the printer paper drawer > print side down - top of the sheet pointing toward the back of the printer, close the drawer,
  • Print one sheet of labels on the test paper (for the test, choose draft quality and black-white print to save ink).
  • After the sheet is printed, look at the result and confirm whether the label(s) printed in the correct orientation and on the correct side of the paper.

In general, printers of this type take in the paper from a tray that opens in front of the printer.   During the print process the paper makes a "U" turn inside the printer.  Printed paper comes back out the front of the printer.

For those reading:

"Print side down" is usually only important for labels, for photo paper, and for other specialty papers that have a "Print side" (glossy, for example).  High Quality regular paper is almost always meant to be printed on either side or on both sides of the paper.
